Shifts of microbial community structure along substrate concentration gradients in immobilized biomass for nitrogen removal

چکیده
Abstract Immobilized biomass technology has been regarded as an effective strategy to enhance simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND) in existing aerobic biological wastewater treatment processes. Nevertheless, the mechanisms of SND immobilized need be proven. In this study, waste sludge from municipal plants was by cellulose triacetate bioplates, bioplate reactor (IBPR) successfully established for nitrogen removal tests. The efficiency IBPR increased 18% under intermittent aeration (IA) mode compared with that continuous (CA) mode. During IA operation, achieved 96% COD 76% NH 4 + -N removal, 71% SND. results microbial community analysis high-throughput sequencing showed nitrogen-related functional bacteria were more abundant bioplates than attached biofilms. colocalization nitrifiers denitrifiers observed, clearly shifted substrate concentration gradients.

Lizard community structure along environmental gradients.
1. How the total number of individuals in a community is divided among its species is governed by both the distribution of species along landscape-scale environmental gradients and by local resource partitioning. In vertebrate ectotherms, abiotic environmental conditions may constrain geographic distributions more strongly than local population densities due to thermal constraints on resource a...

BACKGROUND Understanding the dynamics of the microbial communities that, along with their secreted enzymes, are involved in the natural process of biomass composting may hold the key to breaking the major bottleneck in biomass-to-biofuels conversion technology, which is the still-costly deconstruction of polymeric biomass carbohydrates to fermentable sugars. However, the complexity of both the s...

The present-day wastewater treatment practices can be significantly improved through the introduction of new microbial treatment technologies. Recently, several new processes for nitrogen removal have been developed. These new nitrogen removal technologies provide practicable options for treating nitrogen-laden wastewaters. The new processes are based on partial nitrification of ammonium to nit...
متن کاملPhytoplankton Diversity Effects on Community Biomass and Stability along Nutrient Gradients in a Eutrophic Lake
The relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning is a central issue in ecology, but how this relationship is affected by nutrient stress is still unknown. In this study, we analyzed the phytoplankton diversity effects on community biomass and stability along nutrient gradients in an artificial eutrophic lake. Four nutrient gradients, varying from slightly eutrophic to highly eutr...
متن کاملImmobilized concentration gradients of nerve growth factor guide neurite outgrowth.
Axons are guided to their targets by a combination of haptotactic and chemotactic cues. We previously demonstrated that soluble neurotrophic factor concentration gradients guide axons in a model system. In an attempt to translate this model system to a device for implantation, our goal was to immobilize a stable neurotrophic concentration gradient for axonal (or neurite) guidance. Nerve growth ...
